元宵節是我國主要的傳統節日，也叫元夕、元夜，又稱上元節，因為這是新年第一個月圓夜。因歷代這一節日有觀燈習俗，故又稱燈節。 “猜燈謎”又叫“打燈謎”是元宵節後增的一項活動，出現在宋朝。南宋時，首都臨安每逢元宵節時制迷，猜謎的人眾多。開始時是好事者把謎語寫在紙條上，貼在五光十色的彩燈上供人猜。 因為謎語能啟迪智慧又饒有興趣，所以流傳過程中深受社會各階層的歡迎。元宵燈節期間，是男女青年與情人相會的時機，所以元宵節又成了中國的“情人節”。

'Yuen siu', also called 'yuen jik', 'yuen yeah' or 'seung yuen jit'. It is the first full moon after the new year. The tradition is to admire beautiful glowing lanterns so it's also called 'dang jit'. The tradtional activity on this day is to 'chai dang mai', which started in the Sung dynasty. Every Yuen siu, lots and lots of people will try to guess and attempt these riddles ('dang mai') that are written on colourful paper. These riddles are loved by everyone as they allow people of all ages to participate and are very enjoyable. Also at Yuen siu, it is the time for boys and girls to get together (oooh orgy? :P just for you BBB), so it is also known as the Chinese Valentine's day (By the way there's also another Vday on 7th July... what a kinky lot, 2 Vdays in a year eh...and I'm sorry if this translation thingy is a bit poor... I tried my best)

Even though I haven't a clue that it was a Chinese Vday - It's kinda romantic isn't it? (I'm hopeless!!)
